More about the Australian Flags
Buy your Australian Flags online from Flags of All Nations. Our flags are 100% Australian Made and are locally made by us, here in Queensland. Flags of All Nations specialise in fully sewn flags, where the design is appliqued on to woven polyester material, but also have printed options available as well.
The Australian National flag design consists of a defaced Blue Ensign design, of a blue field with a Union Jack in the canton. Below the Union Jack is a white, seven-pointed star called the Commonwealth Star. On the fly side of the flag is 5 white stars, laid out in the shape of the Southern Cross constellation.
The Commonwealth Star seen on the Australian flag is also known as the Federation Star, or the Star of Federation, and also as the Seven Point Star. This star symbolises the Federation of Australia which came into force on the 1st January 1901. Originally this star had 6 points, however in 1905 there was a proclamation of the Territory of Papua which lead to the addition of a seventh point in 1909 to represent this and any further territories. The original 6 points represent the first 6 states of the Commonwealth of Australia. This star is on both the national flag of Australia and the Australian Coat of Arms.
The Southern Cross constellation is only seen from the Southern Hemisphere and is a reminder of Australia's geography. The Southern Cross is the most well known and represented star constellation in the Southern Hemisphere and can be seen all year round in Australia. The Aboriginal people of Australia have many stories using the stars of the cross and reminds us of our rich history.
Our Australian flags are sold separately however, we also offer them in our Foyer display sets which consists of the 3 official flags of Australia – the Australian National flag, the Aboriginal flag and the Torres Strait Islander flag. These sets come complete with the three flags, three display poles and matching base to hold them all and are for indoor use only. To shop these options, please visit our foyer display listings to see the available options.
The Australian flag should always be flown according to our Governments protocol for flying the flag. These protocols can be found on the Australian Government site and contains useful information on the correct way to raise, lower and fly the flag, protocols for half mast and disposal of worn flags and many more helpful tips.
