The Venda flag design was adopted in 1979 and consists of 3 horizontal stripes in green, gold and brown, and a vertical blue strip on the hoist side of the flag. The gold centre stripe is charged with a brown V in the middle of it. The brown is for the soil of the land, yellow for the beauty of the country, while is for the sky/heaven. These colours are traditional colours used in BaVenda beadwork which have a strong religious significance and are passed down through the generations.
