Sao Tome and Principe Flag
The Sao Tome and Principe Flag was adopted in 1975. The design consists of a tricolour flag in a green stripe top and bottom, yellow stripe in the centre and red triangle based on the hoist side. The yellow centre stripe is charged with 2 black stars. This was adopted in 1975 to replace the flag of Portugal, and has been the countries flag since it gained independence that same year.
Symbolically, the black stars represent the two islands that make up the country, the yellow for the sun and cocoa - which is the main agricultural crop of the nation. The green is for the vegetation and the red for the struggle for independence.
Our World flags are finished with a loop at the top and bottom of the flag to be used with clips to attach to the rope and run up a flag pole. Clips are included with the flag for your convenience.
