The Rwanda flag design consists of a tricolour in bands of blue, yellow and green with the blue stripe being the widest and the yellow and green of equal size. The blue stripe is charged with a yellow sun situated in the upper right corner of the fly side.
Symbolically, the blue band is for happiness and peace, the yellow band economic development and the yellow sun for enlightenment. The lower green band is for the hope of prosperity. The design of the Rwandan flag was adopted in 2001 and was chosen to avoid any connotations to the genocide in 1994. The new design as a whole is said to represent national unity, respect for work, confidence in the future and heroism.
When hung vertically, the flag should be displayed as the horizontal version rotated 90 degrees clockwise.
Our Rwanda flags are finished with a loop at the top and bottom of the flag to be used with clips to attach to the rope and run up a flag pole. Clips are included with the flag for your convenience.
