This flag design consists of a horizontal tricolour of white, red and green with an additional red vertical stripe on the hoist side. The vertical red stripe depicts the national emblem in white, situated in the canton. The national emblem of Oman consists of crossed swords over a Khanjar (traditional curved dagger) with an ornate horsebit linking the weapons. The national emblem is the badge of the Albusaidi Dynasty. Symbolically, the white is for peace, green is for the green mountains in the north of the country. Red is a common colour for Gulf state flags.
