Japan Flag - This flag is officially called the 'Nisshoki' which means the 'sun mark flag' but is more commonly known as "Hinomaru' which means the 'circle of the sun'. This embodies Japan's nickname, Land of the Rising Sun. The design was adopted in 1870 as the civil ensign, and then as the Japanese national flag in 1999.
The design consists of a red sun-disc on a white field. The sun plays an important role in Japanese mythology and religion as the Emperor is said to be the direct descendant of the sun goddess Amaterasu.
Our World flags are finished with a loop at the top and bottom of the flag to be used with clips to attach to the rope and run up a flag pole. Clips are included with the flag for your convenience.
