Materials

Printed flags are made from knitted polyester, a light fabric which flies well in light winds.

Fully Sewn flags are made from woven polyester (also known as flag bunting), which is thicker and considered more durable than knitted polyester.

Flag Care

To get the most out of your flag, allow it to fly freely and avoid flying it in stormy or windy weather. You can launder your flag to keep it looking fresh. For more detail, visit our Flag Care page.

Recycling and Disposal

When it's time for a replacement, we can recycle your old flags and banners. Learn more here.

If you'd prefer to dispose of your old flag at home, national flag protocol advises the flag should be destroyed privately and in a dignified way, such as being cut into small unrecognisable pieces and disposed of with household rubbish.

This flag was adopted in 1897 by the Zionist movement, and then again in 1948 by the State of Israel. Symbolically, the blue stripes represent the stripes on a traditional Jewish prayer shawl, called a tallit. In the centre of the flag is the Star of David, which is a widely acknowledged symbol of the Jewish people and of Judaism.
The original dye that was used was a dye called tekhelet, this dye was very important to both Jewish and non-Jewish cultures of the time, and it was used by Royalty and the upper class in dying clothing and other materials.

There is also variants of the Israeli flag, The Civil Ensign which is navy blue with a white oval on the hoist side, with the Star of David in the centre. There is also the Naval Ensign, navy blue with a white triangle on the hoist side, again with the Star of David in the centre. Lastly there is the Israeli Air Force flag which is a light blue with blue and white horizontal stripes and a solid blue Star of David on a white circle in the middle.
