Ireland Flag - This flag design was originally presented as a gift in 1848 from a group of French women sympathetic to the Irish Cause. It was hoped it would be a symbol of peace between the Roman Catholics and Protestants with the colours outlined as - 'the white in the centre signifies a lasting truce between Orange and Green and I trust that beneath its folds the hands of the Irish Protestants and Irish Catholics may be clasped in generous and heroic brotherhood.'
It was not until 1916 when the flag became the Irish national flag, when the Easter Rising occurred. The green represents the Roman Catholics, the orange represents the Protestants and the white for peace and unity.
Our Ireland flags are finished with a loop at the top and bottom of the flag to be used with clips to attach to the rope and run up a flag pole. Clips are included with the flag for your convenience.
