This flag was officially adopted in 1958 and has remained the same since. The design is made up on a centre red stripe, 4 horizontal stripes in blue white green and yellow, and a yellow star in the corner of the blue stripe. The colours are symbolic of France and Africa, with the vertical stripe connecting them both in unity. The yellow star is intended to be indicative of independence.
