Brunei Flag - The original design of the Brunei Flag dates back to 1906, when it was a yellow flag with black and white stripes. In 1959 after the Declaration of the Constitution, the crest was added to the Brunei flag and this new design was retained after the country gained full independence in 1984.
The Brunei flag design has remained the same since, a yellow field representing Royalty, the Sultan of Brunei. The red crest consists of an upwards crescent, parasol and hands on either side. The crescent is for Islam, the parasol symbolizes monarchy and the hands the benevolence of the Government. The black and white stripes represent Brunei's chief ministers. On the crescent is the national motto ˜Always render service with Gods guidance'.
