The Tajikistan flag was adopted in 1992 and the design consists of a tricolour flag in red, white and green horizontal bands. The red and green bands are equal in width, while the white band is one and half times bigger. The white band is charged with a yellow crown surrounded by an arc of 7 stars. 

There are several meanings for the colours of the Tajikistan flag, one being that the red stripe is for the manual labour class, the white for the intellectual worker class and the green for the agricultural class living in the rural or mountainous areas. Alternatively, it is said that the red is for the unity of the nation, victory and sunrise and also for former Russian and Soviet eras, workers and those who sacrificed themselves to protect the country. White is said to represent the snow, cotton, morality and purity. Green is for the celebration of Novruz, religion of Islam, nature, and the fertile valleys of Tajikista
